Pro Life
Immaculate Conception Parish Pro-Life Group
Our focus and raison d'etre is to inculcate a respect for life, as demanded by God's laws, in our society in general, and in our parish in particular.
For many years now, there has been a slow but sure movement of society away from the acknowledgement of God as our Creator. This has resulted in the erosion of our sense of values, as they relate to all the gifts that God has given us. Chief among these is the gift of life itself. The trend to irreligion has devalued the meaning of what it is to be a human being, and this can be seen in the proliferation of many "anti-life" attitudes such as abortion and euthanasia, and also in the increase in pornography, the use of drugs, the increase of violence in the home, violence against women and children and so on..
The Pro-Life movement works to change these attitudes, and thereby to serve God using the talents He has given us. The parish pro-life group does this on a small scale by assisting the larger pro-life groups such as Surrey Delta Pro Life, B.C. Pro-Life, Campaign Life Coalition, Birthright and so on, by fund raising and the dissemination of Pro-Life information, and by prayer and public witness to the sacredness of life, via the annual Life Chain in October each year and attending the monthly special first Saturday Mass for Pro-life, as requested by the (then) Archbishop Adam Exner, many years ago.
Current membership in the parish pro-life group is very small, which limits our effectiveness. Meetings are held as required, normally on the third Friday of the month.
