About Youth Ministry
WHO is YOUTH MINISTRY for?
Youth Ministry is primarily for those who are high school age (public, home and catholic school). There are occasionally some events geared towards youth who are grade 6 and 7 age too. Because Youth Ministry is the responsibility of the entire parish community, all are welcome to support the ministry in various ways such as direct leadership roles, volunteer roles and of course, prayer support. If you are an adult and wish to become a part of the leadership team or volunteer in other ways, please contact Faye (see above contact information).
MANDATE and GOAL
The mandate of youth ministry at Immaculate Conception Parish is to provide a place and service that allows the youth to feel like they belong to the parish community.
The goal of youth ministry is to guide the youth spiritually, emotionally and physically so that they can become life-long active members of the Catholic church, not only in our parish, and archdiocese, but also globally. We strive to achieve this goal by providing various opportunities for participation within a Catholic framework in the parish and throughout the archdiocese. IC Youth Ministry is based on the Comprehensive Youth Ministry model.
COMPREHENSIVE YOUTH MINISTRY
Youth Ministry is a way of recognizing and encouraging youth to use their unique gifts from God to contribute to their families, the parish and the greater community. There are 8 main components of Youth Ministry which are more than just programs and events. The 8 components of the Comprehensive Youth Ministry Model are (in no particular order of importance):
- Advocacy
- Catechesis
- Community Life
- Evangelization
- Justice and Service
- Leadership Development
- Pastoral Care
- Prayer and Worship
IC Youth Ministry tries to touch on all of these components through gathered and non-gathered programs.
